Sarah's 2007 Tony Picks

Okay, so the names in the boxes with the pink font are the shows that I WANT to win the Tony... The ones with the asterisk (*) indicate the favored show for the award... We compared picks and discussed them on the last day of class... I'm kind of my own person with my choices, but that's okay.

-I only picked the shows I saw while in New York, so not everything has a box or asterisk.

I haven't seen many of the Tony nominated shows, but I happened to have loved CURTAINS in particular. I'm surprised that there was some consensus that David Hyde Pierce might win. (Almost everyone I've talked to thinks Esparza is a lock.) I love that you want Karen Ziemba to win. CURTAINS was my first time seeing Ziemba, Pierce and Debra Monk and I fell in love with all of them.

I'd like to get a chance to see CURTAINS again, up close... I was in the nosebleeds, but I enjoyed that show a lot too.... My class thinks Esparza deserves it, but guesses they might give it to David Hyde Pierce because of popularity and "on stage action" meaning there was more dancing and movement in Curtains than in Company. Also, the director of Company won last year for Sweeney Todd... But that doesn't mean I can't root for Esparza to win. If not Esparza, I'm all for Gavin Lee! I loved him as Bert in Mary Poppins!

I think Karen Ziemba did an outstanding job! Her performance really stands out in my mind compared to Mary Louise Wilson, or even Rebecca Luker, although she's my 2nd choice. I met both casts of Company and Curtains and everyone was really nice and fun to talk to! Debra Monk talked about her time in Iowa and that was awesome! :-) I'm excited for the Tonys!
